Specializing in complex fracture care and anterior clavicle fixation, with an unwavering attention to detail on every fracture, in Jackson Hole, Wyoming
About Dr. Jason Provus
Dr. Jason Provus is a board certified, fellowship trained orthopedic trauma surgeon focused on complex fracture care. As Chief of Orthopedic Trauma at St. John’s Health, his mission is simple. Keep patients in the mountains they came here for, not on a plane to Salt Lake City or Denver for care they can get right here in the valley.
Before Jackson Hole, Dr. Provus spent twelve years as Chief of Orthopedic Trauma at a Level 2 trauma center with Kaiser Permanente in Northern California. He was named one of Jackson Hole’s Best Doctors, earning a silver medal distinction. He completed medical school at the Chicago Medical School, residency through the San Francisco Orthopedic Residency Program at St. Mary’s Hospital and Medical Center, and a fellowship through the San Diego Orthopedic Trauma Fellowship Program.

Fracture and Trauma Specialist
Complex Fracture Care, Close to Home
- Complex and high energy fractures
- Anterior clavicle plating
- Multi trauma and polytrauma orthopedic injuries
- Fracture nonunion and malunion
- Revision fracture surgery
A high percentage of complex fractures in this region have historically meant a transfer out of the valley. Dr. Provus’s practice is built to change that, keeping definitive fracture care local for patients and reducing the burden of travel during recovery.
The Nuances That Matter
Every Fracture Gets the Same Level of Care
Whether it is the most complicated shattered bone or a relatively simple, common fracture, Dr. Provus believes the small things matter. The details of technique, the timing of surgery, the way an incision is closed, the plan for recovery, are what separate good fracture care from the best fracture care.
This attention to nuance is what patients get with every fracture treated in the valley, regardless of how routine or complex the injury may seem.
Pain Management
Evidence Based, Multimodal Recovery
Dr. Provus uses a multimodal pain management approach, combining evidence based techniques to reduce reliance on opioids while keeping patients comfortable through recovery. The goal at every step is getting patients back to activity as safely and quickly as possible.
Built for Mountain Injuries
Dr. Provus’s practice is shaped by the demands of an active, outdoor community, including patients recovering from:
- Skiing and snowboarding falls
- Mountain biking crashes
- Horseback riding accidents
- Climbing and backcountry injuries
- High energy trauma from work and recreation
Care is designed for patients who expect to get back outside, not just back to daily life.

On Complex Trauma
“On March 11, 2024, I shattered my pelvis when skiing at Teton Village. After initial treatment at Cody Clinic, I was transferred to St. John’s Health. The following day, Dr. Jason Provus operated on me. Having completed a significant amount of therapy in the last two years, I have been walking without a cane now for several months. Dr. Provus and the professionals at St. John’s Health are remarkable. Thanks to a superb operation, I have recovered to a great extent from my injury, and am now enjoying my 80th trip around the sun.” — D. M., pelvis fracture
“I badly broke and dislocated my ankle while on vacation in Grand Teton National Park. I suffered a trimalleolar fracture, which is the worst and most destabilizing fracture to your ankle. Dr. Provus thoroughly explained everything to me before surgery, after surgery, and also at discharge. He provided a referral for an orthopedist for my follow up care once I returned to Texas, and has also since followed up with me personally to see how my recovery was progressing.” — J. D., trimalleolar ankle fracture
On common fractures, treated with the same level of care
“I hope you never find yourself in the position of needing a trauma surgeon, but if you do, I sincerely hope you’re lucky enough to meet Dr. Provus. I broke my wrist in January and underwent surgery which included the addition of a plate. I credit Dr. Provus with the skilled repair and excellent care which made such a fast recovery possible. His expertise, attention to detail and compassionate approach made all the difference in my recovery.” — S. B., wrist fracture
“Dr. Provus fixed my wrist after a ski accident last year, and he and his team were terrific. They even helped me find follow-up care back home in Chicago. My wrist is doing great, good as new. Hopefully you never need him, but if you’re injured anywhere near Jackson, you’re lucky to have him.” — T. G., wrist fracture

On the whole experience, start to finish
“Dr. Provus and his assistant Kaitlyn are rock stars. I wasn’t happy that I had to have surgery but was very happy that I got Dr. Provus as my surgeon. From ER to PT, I was extremely happy with my care from Teton Orthopaedics.” — L. B.
“I’m so grateful for all that Dr. Provus and his team, Kaitlyn in particular, did for me. My surgery was complicated and I’m truly so grateful someone with this specialization is here in the Tetons. These folks always took the time to answer all of my questions and were really kind through a challenging time.” — E. C.
Why Local Trauma Care Matters
For over a decade, Dr. Provus led trauma programs at major health systems before choosing to bring that same level of care to Jackson Hole. His focus on keeping complex fracture care in the valley means patients can recover near family, near their mountains, and without the added strain of travel during an already difficult time.
